Prescriptions for Weight Loss

Prescriptions for Weight Loss

A large variety of Prescription medications can be combined with The OWL Diet way of eating, to help curb your hunger and boost your metabolism. As new drugs are developed, they too can be used with our safe, proven and medically supervised weight loss program. We are your providers for today’s best weight loss medications.

Phentermine: This drug is very affordable at approximately $30 per month (out of pocket with GoodRx pricing) and works very well to boost your metabolism and curb your hunger. You will notice an increase in energy and your interest in eating food will be curbed. As a stimulant drug, it increases the rate that you burn calories. The most common dose is 37.5mg as a scored tablet. We have you take ½ tablet in the morning and the other ½ tablet 4-6 hours later

Topiramate: This drug is also very affordable in generic form. People who take topiramate tend to lose weight, for reasons that are unclear. Due to the side effect of drowsiness, we dose 25-50mg at bedtime. Women must be on an adequate from of contraception, due to an increased risk of cleft lip / cleft palate in the fetus at the beginning of pregnancy.

Compounded Semaglutide: We offer a compounded version of Semaglutide/B-12, in the form of a weekly injection given by small needle into the fat layer of the abdomen. The starting dose of Semaglutide is 0.25mg weekly, and this costs $40. This dose is maintained for 4 weeks then reassessed.

Brand Name GLP-1’s : This includes Wegovy and Zepbound. If you are interested in trying one of these newer medications, we will see if you qualify. They are only approved for use in obese patients, with a BMI of 30 or higher. If you have a family history of medullary thyroid cancer you may not take these medications. These drugs can be very effective in helping users lose weight, when combined with a reduced calorie diet. Keep in mind, these drugs have side effects and as millions of people have now used them, we are seeing other potential long term benefits, but also an expanded list of potential side effects. Perhaps the most significant side effect is cost, which can exceed $1,000/month. Manufacturers have offered reduced cash pricing (no insurance), but these offers have terms and conditions.

GLP 1 Medications

  • GLP1 Medications were first FDA approved for the management of Diabetes Mellitus.

We found that they worked very well to help people lose weight. Today the FDA is approving these drugs for the treatment of obesity.

    • Wegovy (also known as Ozempic for Diabetes) - the generic name is semaglutide

    • Zepbound (Mounjaro for Diabetes) - the generic name is tirzepatide

Both of the above are once weekly injections. The price for these products will vary month by month, but the trend is that “cash pricing”, with no insurance coverage, is coming down.

Our providers will help you navigate your choices of medications.

Check out GoodRx for the best cash pricing in your zip code.

It works by increasing insulin levels in your body, which decreases your blood sugar (glucose). It also reduces the amount of sugar released into the blood and slows down your digestion.

Ozempic is the trade name for Semaglutide, a relatively new treatment for Type 2 Diabetics.

  • The FDA lists a variety of warnings regarding the use of GLP1 medications. For a full discussion of this topic, our provider will be your best source for up-to-date information.

We have given over 1,000 doses of GLP1 medications and can tell you that for the vast majority of patients, they are very safe, well tolerated and effective at boosting your weight loss results.

GLP1 medications help you feel full more quickly when you are eating. The result is that portion sizes are reduced. This partners perfectly with The OWL Diet way of eating.

One side effect that we have seen is slowing of the bowel pattern. For most people this can be managed with increased water intake, stool softeners, Miralax and occasional use of plant-based laxatives such as senna.

  • Participation in The OWL Diet qualifies you to receive a prescription for GLP1 medication, subject to a review of your medical history.

If you are Diabetic, then your regular Primary Care Provider may be the person who prescribes one of these medications.

Unfortunately, insurance does not always cover the cost of GLP1 medications for weight loss. For “cash pay” or out of pocket purchasing of GLP1’s there are new lower cost deals now available by using GoodRx.

  • When we prescribe a GLP1 medication you will have it filled at a community pharmacy of your choice.

The cost will vary depending on whether or not your insurance pays for the medication.

Keep in mind that hundreds of OWL Dieters have been very successful with achieving weight loss using the older, and very affordable, medication known as Phentermine.

PureLean Satiety

This supplement provides a natural way to curb hunger and help you feel full faster. GLP1 medications have the same effect, so this is a perfect complement to those medications as well as Phentermine. Take PureLean Satiety twice a day with lunch and supper. Bottle of 60 costs $50 +tax

Take one dose twice a day, with your main meals.

And, this can be a great supplement to continue as part of your maintenance plan, and during breaks from Phentermine.

Phentermine

Phentermine has been FDA approved for active weight loss for several decades. We have prescribed Phentermine thousands of times. As a stimulant, it curbs your hunger, speeds metabolism, and boosts your overall energy.

Phentermine is also very affordable, typically no more than $30 for a 28 day supply. GoodRx will often guide you to the best savings at a pharmacy near where you live.

Phentermine can raise your blood pressure, so your BP should be frequently monitored.

Combining Phentermine with our Lipo-B and Glutathione in office injections is a great combination that leads to success on The Omaha Weight Loss Diet plan.

Testosterone

  • When testosterone levels are low, your metabolism slows down, which can lead to weight gain. With low T your body is not burning calories as quickly as it should be, and any excess calories are stored as fat.

Low testosterone can also present itself as low energy, night sweats, low sex drive, and mood swings.

Testosterone is a normal, essential hormone in both men and women. Levels naturally decline in both genders starting at age 35. If you are age 35 or older we will want to test your testosterone levels, to see if replacement therapy is right for you.

  • If your testosterone level is low, we may recommend a trial of testosterone replacement using bioidentical testosterone pellet therapy.

At Omaha Med Spa we were one of the first medical offices to offer testosterone pellet implant therapy.

We have perfected the procedure, which is safe, and often very effective. The procedure is done in the med spa in under 10 minutes. Using sterile technique, an area of the upper outer buttock will be selected and numbed. We then place one or more pellets into the selected fat layer of the buttock.

The warmth of the body causes the pellet(s) to slowly dissolve, leading to excellent, even levels of testosterone for the next 3 to 4 months in women and 4-6 months in men.

The cost for the procedure and pellets is $400 for women and $750 for men.

  • We offer in office injections or home program for self injection of testosterone for both men and women.

    In Office:

Pricing for Women: $45 per injection. Package of 10 injections for $350.

Pricing for Men: $55 per injection. Package of 10 injections for $450.

    At Home:

First Office visit for Consultation $175 / Shot supplies for the next 6 months $50. Your provider will then write you a prescription for testosterone that you will obtain at a pharmacy of your choosing.

When you first start treatment, or we change the dose of your testosterone, a follow-up lab panel is drawn 4-6 weeks later.

Every 6 months you will return to see us for an Office visit and Lab testing.
