Testing for COVID-19 Antibodies (Aug 2020)
Have you been exposed to the virus?
Many of us are curious….Have we been exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 disease in the last 6 months?
We are now offering blood testing to help answer than question!
The test is called “COVID-19 Antibodies (SARS-CoV-2 IGM & IGG)”
We draw your blood at the med spa and obtain the results within 2-3 days. Your provider at Omaha Med Spa will text you your result and how to interpret the report. In most cases your result with be Negative.
If you are Positive for antibodies then the lab will run IgM and IgG (we will explain what that means). The full lab report is also sent to your email for your records. Finally, our bookkeeper will email you a copy of your receipt, in case you wish to file this on your own to your health insurance for possible reimbursement.
This is NOT a swab test for acute infection. If you have symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, fatigue, cough, loss of smell/taste then you should go to a test site for free testing, or contact your Primary Care Provider. We will not see people who are sick at the med spa.
Antibody testing is a test for immunity – evidence that you were exposed to this virus at some point in the past 6 months. And, as we learn more about this virus we are finding that the antibody test will revert back to Negative at some point after you have recovered.
There is some exciting news about T cells. It could be that previous infection to SARSCoV-2 (virus that causes COVID-19) or other coronaviruses may provide us with some protection because of our T Cells (these are good warriors, part of our immune system that fights viruses).
