Often people are told “don’t worry about that lesion or spot, it’s not cancer. Just leave it alone.” But many people I visit with don’t like the cosmetic appearance of these lesions. The good news is that they can often be removed! Most people that Dr. Abbott treats have been bothered by these lesions for many years. Once they are treated and gone, they wish they had come in sooner.
Skin tags commonly occur on the neck, under-arm area and groin area. This benign but annoying problem does run in families. It is a common request to have these removed. People will see Dr. Abbott to have skin tags treated if they know their insurance will not pay for removal, if they have a high annual deductible insurance plan or they do not have insurance.
Once Dr. Abbott determines that they are treatable, the following steps are taken. A small injection of lidocaine is placed under each skin tag to numb the area. He then uses the Bovie to burn off the lesions. The area heals over the next 1-2 weeks. New skin tags will develop over time.
Dr. Abbott will tell you how many skin tags can be removed by this method during a single office visit for a flat procedure fee of $250. Pricing is provided during the office consultation for single or very large skin tags.
Moles come in many shapes and sizes and also tend to run in families. Dr. Abbott is pleased to provide a free mole check. If he finds any suspicious moles, he will advise you to see a regular dermatologist to have them further evaluated.
Flat pigmented moles may be treatable using liquid nitrogen.
Other moles that are slightly raised above the surface of the skin, and do not penetrate into the deeper layers of skin may be treated by either cryotherapy or removed with numbing and Bovie.
Dr. Abbott will tell you how many moles may be removed at a single visit for a flat procedure fee of $250. Not all moles may be removed using these methods. If surgical excision is required you will be referred to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
Brown Spots from Aging, Sun Exposure and Melasma
Over time, all of us develop brown spots on our face, neck, hands, arms and chest. They may have been caused by sun exposure, pregnancy, the birth control pill or other medications, or simply the effects of aging. Most of these spots may be removed using liquid nitrogen. Using a process called Cryotherapy these spots are quickly and safely treated. Recovery time is up to two weeks, but the results can be very impressive!
